Director Of Rugby: Features

Director of Rugby News Desk

    Game News February 2010

We aim to keep Director of Rugby fresh and interesting so we continually add new features and functions. We'll keep you updated on those via our monthly newsletter which links to this page.

    Coaching page

Yes, we know it's been "coming soon" for quite a while now and we are sorry that it's taken so long to add this in. We have had some technical problems caused by the surge of new players in the last few months and we needed to solve these problems first - before possibly adding to the problem. Anyway, it's now in and running without any hitches (fingers still crossed!)

The coaching page is a part of the game that you can use to influence your team's results so it's worth paying some attention to it every so often.

    Basically there are two functions.

     (1) You are presented with a gallery of coaches complete with biographies detailing their various skills. Some of the coaches can be employed on a full time basis (although there is a cost involved) and some are specialists that you can hire on a short term basis (again, at a cost). You can also fire your coaching staff.

    (2) You can set up your training regime by arranging individual coaching sessions; matching coaches and player groups and slotting them into the various day and time slots through the week. You can do this for "next week" and the two following weeks.

We are not going to tell you exactly how the game calculates the value of your set up (we'll leave that to "The Coach" with his newsletter Insider Tips) But - as with everything on DOR - we aim to make it as realistic as possible. Really, you just need a sensible training programme covering the important areas and you need to keep it fresh.

The help function on the coaching page really is worth reading for this!

    Salary Cap

We had a fantastic reponse to our survey on the introduction of a salary cap. To the hundreds that contributed - thanks very much.

The consensus was generally in favour of a cap but there were many and diverse views on what it should be (although in reality the answer to that was more often than not "just above my current wage bill") We are still thinking about implementation, because technically it is not easy with
    scenarios that are already running.
